With most of Ontario still at home, we thought it was a good time to finally write this blog post because we want to know the answer too! What is the best grocery delivery service in Toronto? With so many different service options we wanted to take the guesswork out of online grocery shopping for you. We compared eight delivery services by filling our cart with ten basic items at each store to compare the cost of groceries, delivery, tip and service charges. Check out what we found!
Inside our grocery cart we included bread, milk, eggs, peanut butter, bananas, chicken, oatmeal, cereal, rice and popcorn and all the same brands where possible.
Across the shopping carts, the pricing ranged from $62 to $96 with pickups at Loblaws being the least expensive and Inabuggy delivery being the most expensive. If you are looking to save money then pick up at your local grocery store is the best way to go.
So what is the best grocery delivery in Toronto? Let us show you!
Lowest Overall Price – Delivery
Winner: Voila by Sobeys had the lowest overall price for delivery at $69.95. However, the difference between Voila by Sobeys, Loblaws Click and Collect, and Cornershop was a mere $3, though delivery service costs increased with larger cart sizes.
Lowest Overall Price – Pick Up
Winner: Loblaws Click & Collect had the lowest overall price for pickup at $62.99. However, the differences were less than $5 for the other pick up options.
Winner: Instacart offers Instacart Express for $9.99 per month or $99 per year (sometimes they have offers for a 14 day free trial). All delivery fees are waived for grocery orders over $35, users get lower service fees regular user service fee is 5% while instacart members get 1.5%. Users typically save $7 per order
For Shopping at Multiple Stores
Winner: With Instacart you can shop at multiple stores and only spend a $10 minimum per store.
Best Variety of Stores
Winner: Inabuggy offers a range of 25 stores and updates the store selection frequently. Stores range from grocery, wholesale, drug stores and alcohol.
For the Fastest Delivery
Winner: Inabuggy offers one hour delivery which is 1 hour faster than Instacart. This is important for those days you run out of formula or diapers! The delivery fee is $19.98 but there is no minimum order amount.
An unhonourable mention to Loblaws for slowest delivery: Loblaws delivery is powered by Instacart, but if you order deliver through Loblaws it can take up to 4 days for delivery but you do get the benefits of your PC Optiumum points (if you know you know!) and any in store offers. You can order from Loblaws via the Instacart website and get delivery much quicker without the perks of points and prices.
So what is the best grocery delivery service in Toronto? The good news is pricing is fairly close when you compare delivery options with other delivery options and pick up options with other pick up options, so really it’s up to you to decide which stores is your favourite.
